On Wednesday, he announced Matt Gaetz, a Florida Republican known for his disruptive politics, as his pick for attorney general. Gaetz, who had been investigated by the Justice Department, resigned from Congress following the announcement. Trump also selected Tulsi Gabbard, the former Democratic presidential candidate, as his pick for director of national intelligence, aligning her with his stance on the intelligence community. This followed the announcement of Fox News anchor Pete Hegseth as defense secretary.


These appointments, which have drawn widespread dismay from establishment figures, resonate deeply with Trump’s supporters. His political project thrives on his role as an outsider attacking the establishment, and these selections reflect his intention to shake up Washington further.
