GOP Congressman Introduces Bill to Rename and Acquire Greenland
A Republican congressman has introduced new legislation to support Donald Trump’s push to purchase Greenland, while also renaming the territory “Red, White, and Blueland.”
On Tuesday, Georgia Representative Buddy Carter unveiled the Red, White, and Blueland Act of 2025, which would facilitate America’s acquisition of Greenland and update official documents with the new patriotic name. The bill gives a six-month deadline for the transition and emphasizes Greenland’s strategic national security value.
"America is back and will soon be bigger than ever with the addition of Red, White, and Blueland," Carter said, praising Trump’s leadership as a “negotiator-in-chief.”
However, the proposal faces resistance. A recent poll found that 85% of Greenlanders oppose joining the U.S., with only 6% in favor and 9% undecided. Despite this, Trump has continued to advocate for the purchase, even sending his son, Donald Trump Jr., to Greenland last month in a high-profile visit.
Denmark Fires Back with “New Denmark” Campaign
In response, Danish citizens have launched a satirical crowdfunding effort called “Denmarkification”, aiming to raise $1 trillion to purchase California. If successful, the state would be rebranded as "New Denmark," with Disneyland renamed “Hans Christian Andersenland.”
Google Maps Sparks Controversy with “Gulf of America” Change
Meanwhile, an unexpected Google Maps update stirred further debate as the Gulf of Mexico was temporarily renamed “Gulf of America” within U.S. borders. Outside the country, both names appeared, while in Mexico, the original “Gulf of Mexico” remained unchanged.
The developments add to an ongoing geopolitical and cultural clash between Denmark and the U.S. over the fate of Greenland.
