Boxing results: Benavidez dominates Morrell, still unbeaten
David Benavidez secured a unanimous decision victory over David Morrell in the main event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday. With this win, Benavidez retained his WBC light heavyweight interim title and claimed Morrell's WBA light heavyweight "regular" belt. Artur Beterbiev remains the undisputed champion at 175 pounds.
Benavidez had long sought a fight against super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez but eventually moved up in weight. In his light heavyweight debut, he defeated Oleksandr Gvozdyk by unanimous decision.
Morrell, who turned professional in August 2019 following a successful amateur career, had an impressive record of nine knockouts in his first 10 fights. He previously defended the WBA belt six times before falling to Benavidez.
Stephen Fulton Defeats Brandon Figueroa by Unanimous Decision
Stephen Fulton dominated Brandon Figueroa to capture the WBC featherweight world title, earning scorecards of 116-112, 116-112, and 117-111 after 12 rounds.
Fulton had previously won a majority decision over Figueroa in 2021 in a thrilling junior featherweight title unification bout. This time, despite Figueroa entering as a -275 favorite per ESPN BET, he struggled to find his rhythm against Fulton.
This marked Fulton's second fight at 126 pounds and his second under trainer Bozy Ennis. He outlanded Figueroa in 11 of the 12 rounds, according to CompuBox, and threw more punches in seven of those rounds. Fulton connected on 32% of his punches compared to Figueroa’s 22%.
