However, the risk is particularly heightened during the dry fall and winter months, when strong winds like the Santa Anas bring dry conditions that can rapidly fuel a spark.

Gilman Fire

A brush fire ignited Thursday afternoon near homes in La Jolla, prompting temporary evacuations that have since been lifted.

  • Size: Burned approximately 3 acres before firefighters stopped its forward progress by 4 p.m.

Border 2 Fire

A large vegetation fire erupted Thursday afternoon near the U.S.-Mexico border, with smoke visible for miles.

Center Fire (Bernardo Fire)
