Demi Moore wins her first award for acting: ‘I’m just in shock right now’

Demi Moore has officially joined the ranks of Golden Globe winners, earning her first award at the age of 62. On Sunday, she won Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her role in The Substance.

Taking the stage, Moore expressed her surprise and gratitude, saying, “I really wasn’t expecting that. I’m just in shock right now. I’ve been doing this a long time—over 45 years—and this is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor. I’m so humbled and so grateful.”

Moore shared a poignant memory from nearly three decades ago when a producer labeled her a "popcorn actress," a comment that left a lasting impact. “At that time, I made that mean that this wasn’t something I was allowed to have,” she reflected. “I bought into it and believed it, and over time, it corroded me. A few years ago, I even thought maybe this was it, maybe I had done all I was meant to do.”

However, The Substance arrived at a pivotal moment in her life. “I was at a low point when this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absolutely bonkers script came across my desk,” she explained. “The universe told me: You’re not done.”

Directed by Coralie Fargeat, The Substance is a feminist fable with a dark and cautionary message about the pursuit of youth. Moore's portrayal brought depth and raw emotion to the project, resonating with both critics and audiences.

Before leaving the stage, Moore shared a powerful takeaway from the film: “In those moments when we think we’re not smart enough, pretty enough, skinny enough, successful enough—or just not enough—I had a woman say to me, ‘You will never be enough, but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick.’”

Moore’s family and friends celebrated her emotional win, sharing a video of their joyous reaction on Instagram with the caption, “She did it!” Her triumph is a testament to resilience, growth, and the power of a second act.
