Madison school shooting live updates: Police say shooter was 15-year-old female student

A teacher and a teenage student were killed in a shooting at a private Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday, authorities said.

At a press briefing Monday evening, Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes identified the shooter as 15-year-old Natalie Rupnow, who also went by the name Samantha. "She was a student at the school, and evidence suggests she died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound," Barnes stated.

Rupnow's parents are cooperating with investigators, but the motive for the shooting remains unclear, Barnes said.

Six additional individuals were injured in the incident, with two students in critical condition and facing life-threatening injuries, according to Barnes.

President Biden has been briefed on the situation, and senior White House officials are in contact with local authorities in Madison to offer assistance as needed, a press pool report confirmed.
