Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul live updates: Ring walks for boxing match in moments
The long-awaited fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul is about to begin—the matchup no one asked for, but everyone will be watching. On Friday night, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the 58-year-old former lineal heavyweight champion faces off against a social media sensation who is 31 years his junior.
Will Tyson defy his age and recapture the magic of his prime? Or can Paul hold his own against one of boxing’s all-time greats?
In the co-main event, Katie Taylor secured a unanimous decision victory over Amanda Serrano in a spectacular women's boxing clash.
Earlier in the evening, Mario Barrios retained his WBC welterweight title following a split draw with Abel Ramos (scores of 114-112, 110-116, and 113-113). Neeraj Goyat also defeated Whindersson Nunes via unanimous decision with scorecards reading 59-55, 60-54, and 60-54.
NBC News will provide continuous updates throughout the night.
The Paul vs. Tyson fight has already made waves, raking in over $17.8 million in revenue. This figure nearly doubles the previous Texas state combat sports gate record of $9 million, set during Canelo lvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders in 2021, according to Most Valuable Promotions. The event is now the highest-grossing combat sports gate in Texas history and ranks as the top boxing gate outside of Las Vegas in the U.S. for revenue.
"Jake Paul has consistently broken gate records throughout his professional boxing career, and Paul vs. Tyson is now the most lucrative non-Las Vegas boxing gate in U.S. history," a promotional release stated. "Only Alvarez vs. McGregor in New York City stands above this for non-Vegas UFC gates."
Is this a sanctioned fight?
Yes. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has sanctioned the event, although there are some modifications from a typical heavyweight fight.
The main event features eight two-minute rounds instead of the usual 10- or 12-round structure with three-minute rounds. Additionally, the fighters will wear 14-ounce gloves instead of the standard 10-ounce gloves.
Because it is sanctioned, the outcome will count on their professional records.
