Shannon Sharpe, Pro Football Hall of Famer and ESPN personality, addressed an embarrassing incident from Wednesday afternoon, when an Instagram Live video accidentally broadcasted audio of him engaging in sexual activity. Speaking on an emergency episode of his show *Nightcap*, Sharpe candidly admitted that his account was not hacked and that the incident occurred due to his own mistake.

“Obviously, I am embarrassed,” Sharpe said. “I’m someone who is extremely private, and to have one of my most intimate moments – the audio – heard by the world is very humiliating for me.” He expressed regret, not for the activity itself, but for allowing such a personal moment to be unintentionally shared with his 3.2 million followers. “I always try to be professional at all times, even behind closed doors, and I’m disappointed in myself for letting people down.”


Sharpe initially claimed his Instagram had been hacked in a post on X (formerly Twitter), but later deleted the message and admitted the mishap was due to his unfamiliarity with Instagram Live. “I threw my phone on the bed and was engaged in the activity. I had no idea IG Live had turned on. My other phone started blowing up, and that’s when I realized something was wrong,” he explained. It was Sharpe’s marketing partner, Jamie Fritz, who finally got through to inform him of the situation, and another person ended the live stream.


Sharpe emphasized that the incident wasn’t a prank or a hack, saying, “It was me being a healthy, active male. Ya’ll thought I was playing around, but Unc gets it in.”

Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, a longtime friend and fellow former NFL star, vouched for Sharpe’s technological struggles, recounting instances where Sharpe had accidentally butt-dialed him. However, Johnson couldn’t resist poking fun at Sharpe’s misstep, especially since Sharpe had recently chastised him for unprofessional behavior. “I’m baffled. I never thought I’d see the day where you, Unc, would pull something so out of character,” Johnson remarked. “I’m not mad, but I’m thoroughly disappointed because I hold you to a higher standard – the same standard you just criticized me for.”


Despite the awkwardness of the situation, Sharpe and Johnson lightened the mood with humor, and at various points, Sharpe even promoted a male enhancement product that sponsors the show.
