KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Patrick Mahomes threw for 291 yards and a touchdown, while the Kansas City defense held firm against Lamar Jackson and the Ravens during a thrilling final sequence, helping the Chiefs secure a 27-20 win over Baltimore on Thursday night. This victory marked the Chiefs' first step in their pursuit of a record third straight Super Bowl title.

The game came down to the wire as Jackson seemingly connected with Isaiah Likely in the back of the end zone with no time left. However, after a video review, it was determined that Likely's toe had touched the endline, overturning the touchdown and sparking celebrations for Kansas City and their fans, including superfan Taylor Swift, who was seen cheering from a suite.

Xavier Worthy contributed with both rushing and receiving touchdowns, while Isiah Pacheco added a rushing score for the Chiefs. The win was also a continuation of Kansas City's dominance over Baltimore, having beaten them five out of their last six matchups. Despite Jackson's efforts — throwing for 273 yards and a touchdown while adding 122 rushing yards — the Ravens once again fell short.

Jackson mounted a valiant late-game drive, moving the Ravens from their own 13-yard line to the Kansas City 10 with only 19 seconds remaining. After an incompletion and a missed connection with Zay Flowers, Jackson scrambled before finding Likely in the end zone. But the touchdown was overturned, ending Baltimore's chances.

The game, delayed by 20 minutes due to a storm, saw the Ravens initially take the lead with a Derrick Henry touchdown. However, Mahomes quickly responded, connecting with Rashee Rice before Worthy’s 21-yard touchdown run. Both teams made mistakes throughout the first half, but the Chiefs' defense and Mahomes' playmaking ultimately sealed the game.

Despite a strong start, the Ravens couldn't find the end zone again after halftime, leaving them to reflect on another close defeat against their long-time "kryptonite," the Chiefs.
