What's open and closed on New Year's Day 2025? Hours and details for stores, restaurants, more

As the calendar flips from 2024 to 2025, many services and businesses will remain open on New Year's Day, although with adjusted hours. However, some institutions, including banks, post offices, shipping services, and the stock market, will be closed in observance of the federal holiday.


Here’s what you can expect to be open or closed on January 1st:
CVS Pharmacies: Most locations will be open, though some may have reduced hours. It's best to call ahead or check online for specific store hours.
Walgreens: While the retail side of most locations will operate during regular hours, many pharmacies will be closed, except for select 24-hour locations.
Rite Aid: Stores will be open with varying hours, so check online for holiday-specific hours.


Shipping services will be impacted as well:
UPS: Both pickup and delivery services will be unavailable on New Year's Day, and UPS Store locations may be closed. UPS Express Critical services will still operate year-round, 

however.

FedEx: Like UPS, FedEx will not offer pickup or delivery services on January 1st, and FedEx Office locations will be closed. However, FedEx Custom Critical remains operational every day of the year.
