1 Dead After a Cybertruck Explodes Outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas

One person was killed, and at least seven others were injured after a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday morning, according to authorities. Officials are investigating potential connections to an earlier attack in New Orleans, where a driver killed at least 15 people during New Year’s celebrations.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department stated during a news conference that the incident is believed to be “isolated,” though a link to the New Orleans attack has not been ruled out. In the truck’s bed, authorities discovered gas canisters, camp fuel containers, and large firework mortars, though it remains unclear how they were ignited.

“There is no further threat to the community,” Sheriff McMahill reassured. He noted that while there is no current evidence connecting the explosion to ISIS—whose influence was cited in the New Orleans attack by President Biden—the investigation is ongoing.

Jeremy Schwartz, the acting FBI special agent in charge in Las Vegas, said during a press briefing that the agency is determining whether the explosion constitutes “an act of terrorism.” Investigations continue to examine any possible connections between the two attacks.
