Former NFL QB Jay Cutler faces DUI, weapons charges
Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested in Tennessee on Thursday night following a traffic accident and now faces four charges, according to a spokesperson for the Franklin Police Department. Cutler, 41, was charged with driving under the influence, possession of a handgun while under the influence, failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision, and implied consent.
The Franklin Police Department reported that officers responded to a minor collision in downtown Franklin around 5 p.m. on Thursday. Investigations revealed that Cutler had rear-ended another vehicle. Officers detected a strong smell of alcohol and observed that Cutler was slurring his words and had bloodshot eyes. He refused field sobriety tests and was taken to a local hospital, where a blood sample was obtained through a search warrant.
A search of Cutler’s vehicle uncovered two firearms, including a loaded pistol. He was booked at the Williamson County Jail just before 7 p.m. and was released on a $5,000 bond at 9:59 p.m.
Cutler, a first-round pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, played for the Denver Broncos until 2008. He was then traded to the Chicago Bears, where he played 102 games and became the franchise's all-time leading passer with 23,443 yards and 154 touchdowns. His final NFL season was with the Miami Dolphins in 2017.
